Overview of AmeriCorps Member Activities
The LISC AmeriCorps Open Space Community Organizer will work with the Director of Community Organizing in support of Allston Brighton CDC’s open space and sustainability advocacy. Our goal is to organize and build leadership among residents to protect and preserve existing open spaces in Allston Brighton and to advocate for sustainable measures that conserve the natural infrastructure. This advocacy can include increasing neighborhood foliage in public and private spaces, creating more awareness of low-impact design techniques such as rain gardens and permeable pavers, and increasing local stewardship of and access to parks and other open spaces. While outreach is to community members at large, special effort will be made to include residents of ABCDC-owned housing and members of the Latino community in our open space work.

Responsibilities:
• Provide organizing assistance and support to the Allston Brighton Green Space Advocates.
• Promote best practices in sustainable development by providing education, technical assistance and research on issues relating to open space, community planning, reducing the carbon footprint, and green building.
• Conduct door-to-door outreach and one-on-one meetings to involve the community, including residents of Allston Brighton CDC-owned housing, in open space & sustainability initiatives.
• Work with asset development and other staff to increase participation in CDC projects and to identify and train new leaders.
• Participate in broader Allston Brighton CDC community organizing efforts including regional and city coalitions, organization events such as the Allston Brighton CDC Annual Meeting, All Bright World Night, and other events as requested.

Minimum Qualifications
• High school degree, GED certificate or agree to achieve GED within the year
• Minimum of 18 year of age, US citizen or permanent resident status
• Desire and ability to work with a diverse group of people, particularly those living in low-income distressed neighborhoods

SUMMARY: The Business Account Executive is responsible and accountable for marketing and connecting Boston Career Link’s registered job seekers to Greater Boston’s employers, resulting in competitive, long-term job placements, satisfied employers, and repeat business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develops and maintains productive relationships with Greater Boston’s employers, staffing agencies, human resource recruiters, and employment-based community programs to promote Boston Career Link (BCL) and the full services of Goodwill Industries to facilitate the placement of registered job seekers.
• Creates opportunities for employers to host and conduct on-site recruitment, career fairs, industry briefings, and post jobs into Mass Job Quest.
• Facilitates events that successfully connect employers with BCL job seekers.
• Targets employer job postings and presents individuals that match the required qualifications based on recommendations and assessments from Career Advisors.
• Develops and cultivates new networks of employment sources while advocating for registered target populations.
• Develops and/or maintains an up-to-date knowledge and familiarity with:
a. Department of Labor (DOL) programs, services, and benefits for employers
b. DOL’s Employment and Training Administration (DOLETA) programs, policies, and procedures
c. Massachusetts Division of Career Services and Unemployment Assistance (DETMA) programs, policies, benefits, and procedures
d. Massachusetts’ One-Stop Career Centers (OSCC’s)
e. Massachusetts One-Stop Employment System (MOSES)
f. Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) workforce investment board, and
g. Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries’ regional programs and services.
• Documents all work-related activities in MOSES. Maintains updated contact information, confirms and enters all job orders from employers.
• Acts as a knowledgeable resource for an employer’s staffing and resources team, providing expertise on job placement, hiring tax incentives, hiring opportunities, and labor market information.
• Improves service delivery design by working closely with other staff, program departments, and community/industry contacts, collecting and assessing job seeker and labor market data to develop enhanced outreach and placement strategies.
• Organizes and conducts Employer Events including On-site Interviews, Industry Briefings, Job Fairs, workshops, and other special recruitment efforts.
• Performs miscellaneous team-related duties, as assigned, including evening coverage, facilitating workshops/groups and participating in special events.

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, preferably in business, marketing, human resources, or related field.
• Strong marketing/sales skills including ability to engage employers through reflective, solution-focused dialogue. Ability to market job seekers with a broad range of skills and competencies to employers.
• Demonstrated experience working with employers, strong understanding of business needs, and extensive knowledge of the Greater Boston labor market.
• Strong organizational skill; ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Strong, accurate computer skills; familiarity with MSWord, Access, spreadsheets, Internet.
• Massachusetts driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Massachusetts.
• Requires acceptable results of CORI check according to Agency policy and DMR requirements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Resources:

• Identify the strengths of residents for asset-building and personal development as well as their needs for supportive services.
• Meet with residents on an individual and as-needed basis to establish work plans and document progress.
• Research, identify, and link residents with resources such as rental assistance, transportation, adult education, childcare, health services, etc.
• Maintain confidential records of resident interactions and referrals made.
• Inform and assist residents with obtaining benefits such as SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps) and prescription drug assistance.
• Establish relationships with government and community service providers.
• Work closely with Property Management staff to identify specific supportive needs as related to lease violations and household stability.
• Provide community resource information to new residents upon move-in.
• Compile information and eligibility requirements for neighborhood and City-wide resources.
• Organize community resource displays with information and applications.

Programs and Activities:

• Implement core programs and services objectives outlined in the Resident Services Program model, along with services required via regulatory and grant agreements.
• Explore and provide on-site educational speakers, workshops, and activities about health issues, financial literacy, computer training, job searching, and other life skills.
• Set up office hours and advertise office hours for residents to meet with and request referrals from RSC.
• Work with Property Management to schedule and coordinate the usage of Community Room space and oversee programs and activities conducted
• Recruit and supervise volunteers to assist with programs.
• Assist residents in building informal support networks with other residents, family members, and friends.
• Create opportunities for residents to get involved with community activities.
• Coordinate resident training for leadership roles, such as developing and implementing beneficial programming.
• Organize on and off-site community-building events.
• Encourage and support residents in the formation of on-site groups such as Resident Councils, building safety monitors, and social clubs.
• Actively support the democratically-elected Resident Councils.
• Mediate disputes between residents or refer parties to mediation services such as Community Boards.
• Exchange resources with other Resident Services staff and collaborate on programs and community-building activities, as appropriate.
• Produce a monthly calendar of events and activities in the site’s newsletter.

Administration:

• Maintain timesheets, service reports, grant reports, activities budgets, program files, and required paperwork.
• Maintain collaborative relationship with Property Management staff and actively participate in site staff meetings to address property needs and resident issues.
• Work with the Portfolio Manager to budget funds for resident services.
• Participate in monthly Resident Services team meetings.
• Write grants and search of any potential funding sources.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the site manager.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work preferred. Equivalent in a related field plus or 2-3 years experience in community services coordination and social service delivery.
• Experience working with an aging in place population; infermed individuals and low-income individuals / families.
• Ability to constructively work with people with mental health, substance use, disability and legal issues.
• Knowledge of Federal and State benefits programs and local services.
• Demonstrated skills in leadership and community building.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including proven ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Enthusiasm, patience, strong initiative, and desire to make a positive difference in the lives of residents.
